Touhou Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Lost

Touhou Danmaku Kagura Might Live Again on PC

Touhou Danmaku Kagura is dead, long live Touhou Danmaku Kagura. The mobile rhythm game based on the popular Touhou Project franchise officially shut down as promised. However, developer UnknownX announced that it plans to salvage as much of the now-dead game as possible to rebirth it as a new title. Its name will be Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost, and it’s targeted for a release on Steam in 2023. It will appear worldwide. [Thanks, Dengeki!]

Key to the move is a crowdfunding campaign hosted on the Japanese crowdfunding site Campfire. The campaign will begin on November 4, 2022, and has a goal of 15 million Yen (about $102 thousand USD). Check out a teaser trailer for the campaign below:

UnknownX stated that although it was “blessed with the opportunity” to redevelop the game in this way, it and its funding partners alone can’t shoulder the whole development, which is why it’s resorting to crowdfunding. The game will be a stand-alone title, and be operable offline, with the interface and rhythm mechanics redesigned for controller-based operation. It’ll have a new story mode, set from the premise of reviving Gensokyo after a calamity left it in ruin. The Mitama Cards and their art will be incorporated into the story mode as a way to unlock the memories of Gensokyo. There will also be a free play mode allowing players to enjoy the rhythm game “to their hearts’ content”. Additional content like Mitama Cards and songs will be added through updates and eventually, paid DLC packs. The game will support Japanese, Chinese, and English language options.

Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost is in development. Its crowdfunding campaign will begin on November 4, 2022.
