The Genshin Impact Tales of the Youkai web event is live, and it (loosely) involves light novels. This one involves heading to a site in your browser to prepare stories for the Yae Publishing House. You combine a title and theme with Paimon’s art in exchange for rewards.
Here’s how the event works. Over the course of five days, you’ll get to write five books. You first pick a title. Day one involved three options, all involving an “oni.” After you choose a title, Paimon will create an illustration to go with it. Then, you choose one of two stories to “write” based on that title and image. You then get to see your official story after completing creation, with comments from a reader and a paycheck offered after it is done. Taking part each day results in rewards like Mora and Primogems.
The topic of light novels has come up rather often in Genshin Impact. The Yae Publishing House is known for releasing them. The Raiden Shogun looks over some during her Story Quest’s first chapter. The Hues of the Violet Garden Inazuma festival featured a number of authors selling their books, among them Xingqiu. Yae Miko herself even discussed them in her character demo video.
This is one of many Genshin Impact web events to appear in December 2022. The last two showed up at the beginning of the month and focused on a new character and gameplay element. Duelist Rising involved an opportunity to earn rewards while seeing Genius Invokation TCG cards. Meanwhile, Fluttering Footsteps in the Fields involved watching The Wanderer (Scaramouche) explore Sumeru.
Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Tales of the Youkai web event will run until December 30, 2022.
