Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony Apparently Skipping E3 2023

E3 2023 will return on June 13, 2023, but it seems Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony won’t bring the Xbox One or Series X, Switch, PS4, or PS5 there. IGN said sources claimed all three won’t take part. However, people will likely see events from the big three around E3, even if they don’t properly attend. [Thanks, IGN!]

Between 2020 and 2022, E3 wasn’t held in-person. This occurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The unrelated Summer Games Fest appeared in its place all three years. While the first Summer Games Fest took place from May 2020 to August 2020, ensuing years’ events appeared primarily in June, just like E3. Companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony still held virtual presentations during that time period, despite the absence of E3.

The alleged reports from IGN sources suggest that while E3 2023 will be in-person in Los Angeles, California, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will not run booths at the event. They will also apparently not affiliate themselves, though IGN noted Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer suggested it will feature a showcase around the same time.

While the big three will opt out, people should still expect to see PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Switch games from other developers and publishers at the event.

E3 2023 will run June 13-16, 2023 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
