Tears of the Kingdom Dungeons Feature ‘Wide Variety’ of ‘Regional’ Looks

Nintendo released yet another The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom interview, and this one features a discussion about its dungeons. In Breath of the Wild, people could head to the four Divine Beasts. Here, Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, Technical Director Takuhiro Dohta, and Art Director Satoru Takizawa offered details about what people can expect.

The discussion about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom dungeons noted that they’ll feel more like the traditional ones in the series, rather than Breath of the Wild’s Divine Beasts. Both Dohta and Takizawa referred to them as offering a “wide variety” of differences. Takizawa specifically noted how this differed, due to the previous entry’s looking a bit alike. Dohta said, “We’ve made dungeons unique to their respective environments, so we think you’ll be able to enjoy the wide variety of regional characteristics.”

Fujibayashi teased even more details about what to expect from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom dungeons and discussed one specific one that is underground.

Yes, we haven’t talked about the dungeons yet. They’ve changed from the previous game. For example, there is a dungeon that connects directly from Hyrule’s surface. If you dive from the sky straight into the dungeon, you’ll trigger an event. We think this will be a new experience that wasn’t possible in the previous game.

As a reminder, the past interviews discussed use of past The Legend of Zelda sound effects and that the newest game was intended to be a sequel from the start. Two more will appear on May 11, 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will come to the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
