Check out for yourself this new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom commercial. It was shared by the Nintendo of Australia YouTube Channel.

As you can see, the commercial shows what appears to be a fragment in an older player’s life. The man plays the new The Legend of Zelda game in his spare time, be it at night after arriving from work or during his early commute on public transport. The whole video is full of ambient noises and under-the-breath dialogue accompanied by mostly cold color undertones, a style very different from the usual funny and family-friendly kind of advertisements Nintendo used for the Switch before.

The reception online appeared to be mixed. Some stated that this new ad is presenting a gloomy scenario. Some others praised it for showing a more “human” side of gaming as an adult player.

As another part of the advertisement campaign for this new entry in The Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo released a special Snapchat Lens that shows a countdown to the game’s launch. The company also released a multi-part interview series with many of the game’s developers, including Producer Eiji Aonuma and Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
