Namco Bandai has been going through some rough times. Recently, the publisher brought their mobile and online game businesses into a single division. Venture Beat reports 90 jobs were lost the restructuring.
Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, confirmed there were layoffs, but did not specify a number. Namco Bandai also plans on moving projects outside their San Jose office to Japan and external developers.
“We are partnering with external development studios out there because that is where the game business is going. Our goal is to move into digital games and broaden to different platforms. The details are being sorted out now,” Choi stated. Splatterhouse and Afro Samurai were two titles developed in-house at Namco Bandai. Japanese developer Game Republic is handling a number of Namco Bandai games now like Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom and Knights Contract.
In addition to games with their mascot characters like Pac-Man, Namco handles some of the mobile Final Fantasy titles in North America.
