Final Fantasy X’s Pelupelu Are Joining FFXIV in Dawntrail

During the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2023 keynote, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced the Final Fantasy X Pelupelu race will appear in the FFXIV Dawntrail expansion. They will be the new Allied Tribe. As usual, they are described as a diminutive race compared to the height of humans and other races. People will find them in Tural, outside the main city in Urqopacha settlements. Yoshida noted that these new people always wear masks. They also act as traders around Tural. Some of the things they tend to make and sell are various drinks, with coffee, mezcal, and tea mentioned. Here’s the official slide from the presentation that offered initial FFXIV Pelupelu details.

Pelupelu first appeared in Final Fantasy X and X-2. However, they also made a Mobius Final Fantasy cameo. We never actually see their faces in that game, due to them always wearing hats and masks with goggles and penguin-like beaks. Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion is in development ahead of a Summer 2024 debut.
