How to Unlock the Cinder Drift in FFXIV

Final Fantasy XIV always offered side content for players to enjoy alongside the release of new Main Scenario Quests. The Cinder Drift is part of The Sorrow of Werlyt side questline that features it’s own unique narrative, and challenging fights inspired by Final Fantasy VII. This guide breaks down what you need to do in order to unlock the Cinder Drift in FFXIV.

How to Unlock the Cinder Drift in FFXIV: Shadowbringers

The Cinder Drift is the first Trial in The Sorrow of Werlyt side quest. This content features a narrative focused on Gaius van Baelsar, the antagonist of the A Realm Reborn base game, and fleshes out his backstory. What makes this content so exciting is how it manages to re-use the Weapons from Final Fantasy VII and use them in a way that ties into Final Fantasy XIV.

In order to access this content you must first complete the Main Scenario Quest “Old Enemies, New Threats.” Head to The Rising Stones and speak to Krile at X:6.0, Y:5.9. Once you have completed this Main Scenario Quest you will then need to go to The Lochs and speak to the Resistance Officer at X:36.4, Y:31.8. Pick up the quest “Ruby Doomsday” to unlock the Cinder Drift.

The requirements for unlocking the Cinder Drift are as follows:

  • Complete “Old Enemies, New Threats”
  • Level 80
  • Item Level 455

How to Unlock the Cinder Drift (Extreme) in FFXIV: Shadowbringers

Once you have defeated the Ruby Weapon as part of The Sorrow of Werlyt side quests, you can begin the task of unlock the Extreme version of this Trial. Speak to the Warmachina Fanatic at X:11.6, Y:22.6 and pick up the quest “Weapon of Choice.” Completing this will unlock The Cinder Drift (Extreme).

  • Complete “Weapon of Choice”
  • Level 80
  • Item level 470

These are the rewards you can obtain from the Cinder Drift (Extreme):

  • Ruby Weapon Triple Triad Card
  • (1) Ruby Weapon Specific Weapon
  • Ruby Gwiber Trumpet
  • Ruby Totem
  • 25 Tomestones of Poetics

Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
