Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Cleric Subclasses

For those who wish to don the priestly garments and be the healer in the group in Baldur’s Gate III, the Cleric is best class to build. The main healer class in this game, it is also one of the most versatile. It is capable of essentially be a multiclass in its own right by taking a little bit from each class. It can be one of the most daunting classes in the game. As a Cleric main, let me tell that this is possibly the most versatile options. Don’t let its healer-centric nature deter you from playing this must-have class.

What is the Best Cleric Subclass in Baldur’s Gate 3?

For the most part, subclasses are primarily up to the player. That said, Cleric has a whopping seven to choose from in Baldur’s Gate III when developing your best build. There are a couple of duds in this group that aren’t nearly as interesting as the others, but you can still make them work.

If you want the best Cleric build in Baldur’s Gate III, you’ll want to consider the Life, Nature, Trickery, or War. War is for those players who want to be a more traditional healer Paladin-style character. On the other hand, Life is for the pure healers who want to revive party members, build their resistances, and so on. Nature is my personal pick, as it turns you into a Druid and Cleric hybrid. You can speak to animals and use a fair number of spells without ever multiclassing with Druid. Finally, Trickery is the pick if you want a strange, but fascinating character that is a stealthy Rogue-like Cleric assassin.

Once you find the subclass you want, these are the general options you’ll want to pick for your build to get off on the right foot. Note that parts like your background, deity, and the like are more flavorful options that give you some minor stat boosts and new dialogue options, but ultimately don’t matter as much in your build.

In addition, there are a lot of spells and skills that won’t be as beneficial to you. Here are the ones you should consider:

  • Cantrips: Guidance, Sacred Flame, and Thaumaturgy or Resistance
  • Spells: Aid, Bless, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Guiding Bolt, and Sanctuary
  • Abilities Focus: Wisdom and Constitution or Strength
  • Recommended Armor Type: Medium
  • Recommended Weapon Type: Morningstar

Baldur’s Gate III is available for the PC and will release for PS5 on September 6, 2023.
