A Neopets TV Show Is in the Works

The Neopets browser-based virtual pets will be getting their own TV show. The site’s official Twitter account confirmed that JumpStart Games, the current owner of the property and developer of the site, is working on an animated show starring the characters and set in their world.

Some additional details about the Neopets TV show were confirmed by Kidscreen. Beach House Pictures, which has worked on kids shows like Hiccup & Sneeze and Teddies, will create the background for the series. This means it will develop characters and scripts. Blue Ant Media, which has been behind animated shows like Night Sweats, will be handling the animation. 

Neopets began its life as one of the early browser-based activities online. People could adopt a Neopet from one of multiple species and care for it by feeding it, getting it virtual items, and visiting different areas of the website. It also had a social element, as people could interact with one another with guilds, run shops to manage a virtual economy, or have their Neopets fight each other in a virtual arena. Minigames were also available.

In addition to the Neopets website, there were also a number of video games based on the property. One is Capcom’s Neopets Puzzle Adventures, which plays a lot like a Puzzle Quest version of Othello. The better title was Neopets: Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing, an action-RPG for the PlayStation Portable that involved the pets that a Neopet trying to save the stolen Wand of Wishing.

Neopets has been open since 1999.
