Actually, Tecmo Owns Fret Nice (It’s That Indie Guitar Platformer Game)

image Another E3 surprise eclipsed by blockbuster announcements like Metroid: Other M was Fret Nice, a 2008 IGF finalist is coming to consoles care of Tecmo. The game is a platformer with a unique control scheme. You play Fret Nice with a plastic guitar.

A representative from Tecmo said PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade versions of Fret Nice will come out in early 2010. From the chat I also learned Tecmo owns the rights to the intellectual property. Fret Nice was originally developed by Sweden based Pieces Interactive who also created Puzzlegeddon for PCs.

Tecmo hopes Fret Nice will be a hit and the upcoming game can start a franchise. Interestingly, Tecmo was coy about answering questions like which guitar controllers will Fret Nice support. The game will support a regular controller and perhaps guitar controllers. Since Fret Nice was designed with guitar controllers first Temco must be working on making the game compatible with existing peripherals.
