After around 29 years, someone finally discovered a way to officially recruit Lilith, protagonist Stahn’s younger sister, in the original Tales of Destiny game without relying on bugs. Majestic Phantasian, an old-school Tales walkthrough site from 1998, was the one to make the discovery.
This is an unexpected discovery as fans previously believed that Namco (now Bandai Namco) had not implemented Lilith’s recruitment in the final game. Originally, to get Lilith into your party in Tales of Destiny, you needed to use a glitch. Using the official method, you’ll get Lilith in the second part of the game after you return to Stan’s hometown.
There are many conditions to fill for you to get Lilith, though. For example, you can’t take any items from civilian houses, get the Apple Gel from the toilet at the very beginning of the game, or explore so much instead of going straight to your next objective that characters like Rutee or Mary scold you.
According to Majestic Phantasian, this method is only available in the first release edition (SLPS 01100) of the game. A video from Kevangelion on YouTube showed the legitimate Lilith recruitment in the English PSX version of the game too. Jun Toyoda, a producer for the original Tales of Destiny, commented on this discovery, saying that it was amazing. He mentioned that there were major bugs in the game’s Version 1, because there wasn’t enough time for debugging. Lilith was supposed to have been cut.
Tales of Destiny came out on the PlayStation in 1997, and a remake (with recruitable Lilith) came out on the PS2 in 2006. There is no remaster or second remake of this game yet, though you can express interest in one in this survey.
