New gameplay details for AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative have appeared. Spike Chunsoft gave fans a first glimpse at some new and returning gameplay mechanics featured in the upcoming game. As in the first game, nirvanA Initiative will consist of two main parts: an investigation conducted in the real world, and the “Somnium,” where players use a Psync machine to dive into the dreams of key witnesses and suspects. Players must traverse both of these worlds to gather clues and ultimately solve the case of the Half Body serial killings.

Both the investigation and Somnium parts will feature new mechanics. In addition to the returning mechanics such as X-ray and thermal vision, the real-world investigation part will feature three new capabilities. The Virtual Reality feature will allow players to find clues using special visual functions. On the other hand, the Truth Reconstruction feature will replay a scene as if it were a television drama, with your AI companion playing the director. Finally, the Wink Psync feature is a simplified version of the Psync mechanic that will let players read characters’ minds.

Additionally, the Somnium part of AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative will also receive some important gameplay changes. Some things are still the same, such as the six-minute time limit and Mental Lock mechanic. However, nirvanA Initiative will also include Somnium worlds where players can fly and swim underwater.

You can get a better look at some of the Somnium worlds in the screenshots below:

AI: Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative will release in North America and Europe on June 24, 2022. It will be available for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
