When Acquire began planning Akiba’s Trip they weren’t thinking of a game with vampire-like enemies or even set in Akihabara. The developer of action games including Way of the Samurai and Tenchu: Shadow Assassins wanted to design a game that went beyond beating up an enemy.
"It all started with the concept of an action game that doesn’t rely on just ‘beating up the enemy.’ After coming up with an interesting action concept, we decided to go with something of a novella format for the story, as there is a strong market for games along that bent here in Japan," Luke Rideout, Assistant Producer at Acquire tells Siliconera.
"The combat itself relies on attacks to the head, upper and lower body, with some combo attacks and new techniques to learn in the game." Members of the Way of the Samurai team created the battle system in Akiba’s Trip and added a unique twist since the Kageyashi are vulnerable to sunlight. "As it’s their one major weakness, you have to use the power of the sun to take them down." In other words, you have to expose their bodies to sunlight.
