One of the many announcements and mentions made at Aksys’ Anime Expo 2016 panel had to do with Hakuoki. While the company has nothing to announce yet, RPG Site says it expressed a desire to localize Hakuoki: Sweet School Life, the alternate reality, modern-day visual novel starring the heroes and heroines from the otome series.

Originally released on Japanese PlayStation Vitas in 2014, Hakuoki: Sweet School Life follows Chizuru Yukimura as she becomes the first female student at Hakuo Academy. All of the members of the Shinsengumi fill more ordinary roles. Hijikata Toshizo is her homeroom teacher and Sanosuke Harada is the PE teacher, for example. Meanwhile, Heisuke Toudou is Chizuru’s childhood friend and Souji Okita, Hajime Saito, and Chikage Kazama are upperclassmen.

While we haven’t seen a localization of the full Hakuoki: Sweet School Life experience, we did get a glimpse of it in Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi on the PlayStation 3 . It was possible to unlock and read through the short stories that inspired the spin-off.
