Back when the Animal Crossing: New Horizons first summer update arrived on July 3, 2020, Nintendo promised a second wave with even more new features would appear soon. Now, on July 30, 2020, it will come and add a number of activities. There’ll be fireworks and an opportunity to visit friends’ Dream Islands with Luna. More importantly, an Animal Crossing island backup feature will be added.

First, there are the fireworks shows. These will happen every Sunday in the month of August after the update is applied. If you visit your town hall, you’ll see people gathering to watch the shows and be able to participate in Redd’s raffles. You’ll also be able to create custom-design fireworks.

The Dream Islands feature will bring back elements of Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s Dream Suite. Your character will be able to head to a bed, sleep, and meet Luna the tapir. She’ll then let you visit other people’s dream islands and be able to sample their clothing. You can even meet the avatars of the residents who normally live there.

As for the Animal Crossing Island Backup Restoration Service, the official press release has offered the following details about how this will work. Note that it only applies to island backups and the save data and user move update will arrive later in 2020.

Nintendo Switch Online members can enable the new island backup service, which automatically uploads island and user save data to the internet at certain times. If your Nintendo Switch system is lost or damaged, you may be able to recover your island paradise as long as you’ve enabled island backup. In the event of loss or damage, contact Nintendo Consumer Support about restoring the island and user save data on your new or repaired Nintendo Switch system. After your island data and individual player data is restored, you can get back to building your island community!
