Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Shells Are Now Available

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Sharks aren’t the only things showing up in Animal Crossing now. A new sort of shell is showing up in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for people in the Northern Hemisphere, and people might be wondering what is going on. Well, it is an all-new crafting component, which means new clothing, furniture, and decorative options if you manage to collect enough materials and DIY recipes. It all means you have to keep an eye out for Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Shells and balloons.

The Summer Shells are easy enough to spot. They have a unique appearance and appear on coastlines like other shells. If you see one that looks like a conch, but is blue, that’s the item you’re looking for. They can be rather infrequent, so you won’t see them pop up as often as a sand dollar, but you will see them during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer months, which are June, July, and August, and during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer months, which would be December, January, and February.

As for Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Summer Shells recipes, so far I have only seen them appear via Balloon Presents. (This is the same way people could get the cherry blossom recipes.) Like recipes for bamboo and cherry blossom items, the Summer Shell DIYs will occasionally require additional materials like extra shells. Items like a Shellfish Pochette, Starry-Sands Flooring, and Underwater Wall are all among the possible items people can create.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch. In addition to the Summer Shells, two other seasonal activities are occurring in the game. One is a Wedding Season event with returning characters Cyrus and Reese, which allows people to earn different sorts of wedding-themed furniture and clothing. The Nook Shopping catalog also has three new items that are only available to purchase during June 2020.
