Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo Update Is Live

Recommended Videos

The Animal Crossing: New Leaf Nintendo Direct is running on Twitch right now, but you don’t have to watch to start welcoming amiibo to your neighborhood. The moment the Direct began, it revealed that the Welcome amiibo update is available to download via the Nintendo eShop.

When people download the Animal Crossing: New Leaf update, they’ll add Harvey’s campground to your game. When you scan an amiibo into your game, Wisp will invite that character to your campground. You can then head there to visit the characters. One spot will be saved for special characters’ RVs, like Tom Nook, Lottie, and Jingle. The rest are for regular neighbors.

Visiting these animals lets you engage in special interactions. You can talk to standard visitors, buy some of their exclusive furniture with Meow Coupons, and even invite them to move into your town. The special visitors have special furniture that add minigames to the game. One is a Nintendo Wii U toy, which makes Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival’s Desert Island Escape. Animal Crossing Puzzle League is another minigame added to the game via the item, inspired by Panel de Pon and Puzzle League, and you can play it by getting the in-game New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL. The coupons to buy such things are earned by adding a CAT Machine in town to use your town pass to complete daily objectives for MEOW Coupons you can spend at Harvey’s campground.

Special Harvey’s Campground visitors were also announced. Scanning in the Splatoon Callie and Marie amiibo will invite Cece and Viche, squirrels dressed like the Squid Sisters, to your game. Scanning in an Inkling amiibo invites Inkwell the Octopus, a new character over. The Legend of Zelda amiibo can also be scanned to bring Wolf Link, Medli, Ganon, and Epona amiibo over to visit. Each of these characters have unique furniture as well.

A few quality of life changes have come to Animal Crossing: New Leaf as part of the update as well. Instead of starting over with nothing, you can sell your old town to Tom Nook, get a certain amount of bells in exchange, and restart with a fresh town and all of the bells he offered in your ABD account.

Nook’s realty now has additional options. You can buy a Secret Storeroom invisible closet. You can access it from anywhere and store as many extra items you have lying around there as you’d like. Lottie works there now. If you pass a test, you can organize furniture in homes via the touch screen. Your Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game can also be linked to your copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf now, letting you buy giant items from there.

As an aside, a change has come to Tortimer Island too. You can turn off the chat when you’re there, in case someone isn’t behaving properly.

The Animal Crossing: New Leaf Direct ended with a list of the 50 missing villagers coming back to the game via the last round of amiibo cards.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is immediately available for the Nintendo 3DS, as is the Welcome amiibo update.
