UUUM and Goodroid announced a new entry in the Ao Oni series. Ao Oni X will appear on Android and Apple iOS devices. The game will launch next week in Japan on December 22, 2020, so people won’t have to wait long to try it out. [Thanks, 4Gamer.]
The original survival horror game Ao Oni was downloaded over 15 million since its release in November 2008. The new smartphone game will have multiple endings that change based on the player’s selections. Players will also get to share their endings online.
The game is set on an isolated island. It starts with the arrival of five characters: Hiroshi, Takeshi, Takuro, Mika, and Chitose. Other than Chitose, the four others share names with characters from the original Ao Oni. Hiroshi will the protagonist. He’s described as always calm and composed, and he doesn’t believe in anything unscientific.
They say that there’s a deserted village on the other side of the mountain tunnel that’s been blocked off. Those who step foot in there never return, or so they say. One day, the protagonist and his friends hear about the ominous urban legend and decide to visit the village to test their courage. Much to their disappointment, they only find a regular deserted town. However, little do they know that gruesome incidents that are about to take place.
A special livestream will take place right before the game’s launch on December 21, 2020, at 6pm JST. Yuuko Kawanishi will act as MC for the event, and we’ll see guest appearances from Megumi and Ao Oni. Director Ono will appear in the form of a heavenly voice from the development team.
