The Taiko: Drum Master series, at least the portable versions, have become mini-RPGs. Bandai Namco had Don-chan explore a fantasy world with a dragon buddy in the last game.
Taiko Drum Master: Don and Katsu’s Great Space-Time Adventure expands upon this with 3D maps. Famitsu reports that Don-chan will time warp to the past and future on a quest to protect history. We’ve seen drum battles in Taiko: Drum Master before, but it looks like you’ll have a party with you in Don and Katsu’s Great Space-Time Adventure.
As usual, you can dress Don-chan up, but in Taiko Drum Master: Don and Katsu’s Great Space-Time Adventure this does more than alter his appearance. Costumes change Don-chan’s status and have different special effects. Players can also use life recovery and other items in the game. That’s another step towards being a regular RPG with a music battle system.
Taiko Drum Master: Don and Katsu’s Great Space-Time Adventure comes out on June 26 for Nintendo 3DS.
