Ubisoft pulled the rug under Paris based Darkworks who was developing I Am Alive. This happened to the studio before back in 2002 too when they were working with Capcom on an action game called Lost Mantis. While Darkworks was the developer the intellectual property looked like it would be Capcom’s since they registered a trademark for Lost Mantis in the USPTO.
Lost Mantis never saw the light of day and may have even gone through a radical change to become U.S.S. Antarctica before the project got buried. While a playable build never surfaced some concept art from the project wriggled its way on to the net. The monster design and areas look quite different from Capcom’s other projects except for the last picture… it sort of looks like the Akrid eggs from Lost Planet. Now that Lost Planet is moving from a frozen world to a marshy one it will be interesting to see if Capcom uses any of this lost work.
