Best Early Game Pawn Vocation combinations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

When you start Dragon’s Dogma 2, you will only have access to a total of four different Vocations for the possible Pawns that will appear. This includes Thief, Archer, Fighter, and Mage. This makes the choice pretty easy in terms of how you should fill out your party if you want something more well-rounded.

However, as soon as you unlock Sorcerer and Warrior, Pawns of those Vocations can start showing up in the Rift or wandering around the world as well. So my suggestion is to unlock those to Vocations as soon as possible, as they offer your party a substantial upgrade in power.

Concerning early game Pawn combinations, I would suggest the following:

  • Mage Archer Fighter Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • MageFighter Thief Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • Mage Mage Archer Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)

A Mage should always be part of your party composition as they can heal. A second Mage in the party can also help round out damage since you can dedicate one Mage Pawn to buffing and healing, while the other deals damage in the form of elemental spells until you get access to Sorcerer. A Fighter is always a strong choice since they can tank, which is essential in the early game.

Best Mid Game Pawn Vocation Combinations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The mid game can vary for each player. I say this because depending on how much you’ve explored and how much you’ve invested in gear will make a huge difference in terms of your party composition. But one thing is certain: the Sorcerer and Mage reign supreme (and those two Vocations will continue even into the late game). I generally always favored a Warrior with Tank Augments, which includes Provocation. Basically, you will need to level up Fighter to get Provocation and other Augments that will make your Warrior a little sturdier. But it’s totally worth it since the Vocation can deal loads of damage while tanking hits.

Now, concerning the Sorcerer. This is one of the best DPS Vocations in the game. Since Pawns cannot use Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster, or Warfarer, your options are a bit limited. And the Sorcerer is an extremely reliable source of damage, especially since the Pawn AI is really solid this time around. And if you’re a Mystic Spearhand you can basically prevent any incoming damage or having a Sorcerer’s concentration broken through spamming Mirour Shelde.

Concerning mid game Pawn combinations, I would suggest the following:

  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Sorcerer Mage Player Character Fill
  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Warrior Sorcerer Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Archer Mage Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Mage Thief Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)

Best Late Game Pawn Vocation Combinations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

While the list of suggestions is small, it’s mostly the same as before. A Warrior is tanking hits, a Sorcerer and Mage (for DPS and healing), and some kind of supplementary DPS. My suggestion, if you are extremely confident as a player and are using Mystic Spearhand, is to go hard with Sorcerer, Mage, and Warrior.

The Sorcerer can laugh in the face of bosses this time around, especially if you find a pawn with the Metereon Meister skill. As long as you are shielding them and they can get that cast off, everything will melt in front of them. Other alternatives are the Thief, for its maneuverability, and Archer, if your Mage or Sorcerer doesn’t have any spells to shoot enemies out of the sky, which can happen and can be a pain.

Concerning late game Pawn combinations, I would suggest the following:

  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Sorcerer Mage Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Archer Mage Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)
  • Warrior (Tank Augments) – Mage Thief Player Character Fill (Any Vocation)

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
