With 18 characters available in Persona 5: The Phantom X, it can be difficult to know who’s best for any given situation. From healers and protectors to high damage dealers, here are some of the current standouts.

Best Damage-Dealing Character in Persona 5: The Phantom X – Motoha
For damage-dealers, you have Assassins, who excel at single-target damage, or Sweepers, who work best with a crowd. However, since crowds are common in Persona 5: The Phantom X, a Sweeper is recommended. And the two current options are both great in similar ways. Both Motoha and Ann can dish out huge amounts of damage and use elemental ailments to stack even more.
However, Motoha wins out here simply because she’s readily available. For a free character everyone will have access to, her damage output is surprisingly great. Just make sure not to use her against enemies with an Electric resistance.

Best Healer – Morgana
Two Medics are available right now, but one is much better than the other. Lufel is fine. He can heal perfectly well. However, Morgana can do everything he does but better.
Morgana not only heals the entire party, he also cure status effects at the same time. His Highlight provides a free revive. He’s a decent attacker when he needs to be, and his attacks can boost his healing ability. And what’s more, sometimes he’ll use Morgana’s Favor to heal everyone on a whim without you telling him to.

Best Guardian – Yukimi
While Shun does a lot of HP boosting, Yukimi feels like the best defense character for your team in Persona 5: The Phantom X. Her whole strategy is built around stacking shields on her allies, which she can do automatically or manually, and it doesn’t take long before the whole party is protected.
But she also has two other great benefits. Her shields have the ability to boost the party’s attack power, and the Blessings she adds with the shields add some additional passive healing to keep your party alive.

Best for Buffs and Debuffs – Yaoling
The Disruptor and Saboteur classes feel a little weak at present. Many of them are good in one specific way and lacking in many others, such as Kurotani only boosting fire damage or Kamiyama’s utility costing HP for those he boosts. The exception to this is Yaoling.
Yaoling is a machine designed to increase your damage output. If she’s not decreasing enemy defenses, she’s boosting your attack. Her Highlight can also apply Forget, which makes it harder for enemies to retaliate, while her own attack output increases.

Best Elucidator in Persona 5: The Phantom X – Miyu
Both Elucidators in Persona 5: The Phantom X at present are good for boosting a single stat and little else. While Tomiyama will boost your attack, Miyu will boost your defense. However, the way Miyu does this makes her the more useful of the two.
Miyu’s entire setup is putting shields on the party. If anything, her defense boosts are the bonus to her shielding abilities. Stat boosts are nice, but negating damage is even better, and that’s where Miyu excels.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is out now for PC and mobile.
