On November 11, 2025, the biggest Trainee character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby game joins the game, as the gacha banner for the tallest Uma Hishi Akebono starts this afternoon. Including her ears, her canon height is close to 6 feet (~180). The reason for her height is because in real-life, that race horse was known for both his size, due to his height and weight being so much greater than others. She’ll join the regular pool of characters after her banner ends on November 21, 2025. The Year 1 Balance updates from the Japanese version also arrive today.
To help offer a better sense of context for exactly how tall Hishi Akebono is in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, here’s a custom in-game concert YouTube user Unamused Chimichanga set up that shows her performing alongside two of the shortest characters in the game, Haru Urara and Mayano Top Gun.
Hishi Akebono is a Sprinter in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, though the character could very easily run Mile races even with her B rank or with an inheritance boosting that to A or higher. Her growth rates prioritize Power (20%) and Guts (10%). While she could be a Front Runner or Late Surger, she starts with an A-rank as a Pace Chaser. She’s also best at running on Turf, with an A-rank there, and probably will never be a Dirt racer due to an F-rank in that.
Her Unique Skill and Potential Skills all lean into her nature as a Pace Chaser and Sprinter. Yummy Speed kicks in if she’s “well-positioned” to give her a burst of speed. Tactical Tweak and Gourmand are both Pace Chaser skills, with the former boosting acceleration and the latter being a Stamina refill. The two Sprint skills are Intimidate and Perfect Prep. Intimidate debuffs all racers behind her when she’s toward the front. Perfect Prep helps with positioning toward the end.
