Super Mario Maker encourages people to think outside the box. There are times when you’ll have to use items or enemies in unexpected ways. A good example is “Winners don’t do shrooms,” where you want to avoid all mushrooms as it will keep you from getting through a small gap at the end of the level. The same thing happens with enemies.
Here are two perfect examples of such things. In Andre GX’s “Sledge Bro Bounce”, a level shown in the Domtendo let’s play below, a Sledge Bro becomes an ally to Mario. In order to get into a blocked pipe, a Mario has to get a Spinies hat, stand under a pipe spawning Sledge Bros, and bounce it over to P Switches. The weight of the Sledge Bro allows him to push it, granting Mario access to the pipe.
In another instance, we get to see a level from Oni called “Showdown slowdown.” The goal here is to defeat Bowser with the help of a POW Block. But to reach it, Bob-ombs have to be hurtled skyward to destroy ice blocks, so the item will move down a conveyor belt line.
Super Mario Maker makes a player reevaluate every character. Since we possess the freedom to experiment with characters in previously unavailable situations, we’re able discover unexpected new uses for each one.
Super Mario Maker will be released on the Nintendo Wii U on September 11, 2015.
