Hudson isn’t just reviving Military Madness, their hardheaded hero is coming back with a 3D game too. Bonk: Brink of Extinction is being made by first person shooter vets Pi Studios. Their resume includes the most recent Wolfenstein game and Wii versions of Rock Band.
Bonk… looks different. Some of his charm seems lost from his glory days, but when I saw a demo of the game it looks like classic Bonk with one exception, drop in and drop out co-op. Similar to New Super Mario Bros. you can work with another Bonk, bounce on each other, and access co-op only areas. There aren’t many co-op platformers these days so I’m looking forward to that. Also, Hudson hinted at a surprise ending to the game’s darker doomsday scenario.
Bonk: Brink of Extinction is in development for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation 3. All three versions are slated for a spring 2010 release. The final game has thirty levels spread across three worlds. Post release Hudson plans on releasing downloadable chapters to keep Bonk going.
