The release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild brought a grand and vast open-world to the Legend of Zelda series, something not employed in any of its previous titles. The response to this type of design was, for the most part, very positive. Now, in a recent interview with Gamerant, Breath of the Wild’s director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi spoke about how the ideas from the game will influence future installments in the series.
When asked specifically if the open-world design would become the “standard” in the Zelda series going forward, Fujibayashi replied with the following:
“We can’t really say much at the moment but there are lots of things in this current game design we still want to explore. If, as a result of that exploration, we feel positive we can provide our audience with new experiences it’s possible this design could become the standard.”
Breath of the Wild only just released a few months ago, so it will still be quite some time before we’ll be able to see if the same game design will be used in the next Zelda game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
