You Can’t Make Restore Points In Pokemon Virtual Console Games

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

In Virtual Console games on the Nintendo 3DS, it’s possible to do two things. One is create a Restore Point, which is essentially a save state from which people can pick up and play.  The other is the ability to access the Home Menu, temporarily pausing the game. Nintendo has uploaded the Japanese Virtual Console manuals for the Nintendo 3DS releases of Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, all of which reveal these two functions are absent in these releases.

People who pick up one of the Pokemon Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console releases will not be able to make Restore Points. Instead, they will have to rely on the ability to save anywhere already found within the game. The Virtual Console menu as a whole is absent, replaced by a Cable Club Communication Menu that will appear on the touch screen when someone attempts to Connect to a Partner or Search for a Partner who also has Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow.

The four Pokemon Virtual Console releases also require someone to completely close Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow before allowing access to the Nintendo 3DS Home menu again.

Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow will be released worldwide on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on February 27, though Pokemon Green will only be available in Japan.
