Nankatsu Sports Club has announced that it will produce and sell crossover merchandise featuring Captain Tsubasa and Transformers in mid-January 2025. The items will feature Tsubasa Ozora and Optimus Prime stepping on a soccer ball.
The merchandise lineup will consist of T-shirts, keychains, and face towels. The T-shirts will be available at 5,000 yen (~$31.60) apiece in two colors (black and white) and four sizes (S, M, L, and XL). The blue face towel will cost 2,500 yen (~$15.80). Meanwhile, the white square keychain will be available at 900 yen (~$5.70), but the club will only produce 200 copies of this item.
The crossover originated when Yoichi Takahashi published a new illustration that featured Tsubasa Ozora and Optimus Prime on Nankatsu SC’s final home match day in the 2024 season. The crossover came to fruition because both the Captain Tsubasa-inspired real-world soccer club and Takara Tomy—the Japanese IP holder of Transformers—are based in the same city of Katsushika in Tokyo, Japan.
The Captain Tsubasa – Transformers crossover merchandise will be formally available for sale online in Japan on January 14, 2025. Nankatsu SC will have early-bird sales for several items in the lineup at the U-12 Captain Tsubasa Cup Katsushika tournament on January 11-12, 2025.
