Yōdanji is a turn-based roguelike dungeon crawler, one that will have players capturing cute yokai from Japanese folklore and putting them to work fighting other monsters.
Yōdanji places players in randomly-generated dungeons, tasking them with seeing how deep they can go. As they explore, they may find scrolls of folklore about other yokai (which will let them summon that creature later), all drawn from real folklore. Players will also be able to find hidden amulets that increase their powers.
Yōdanji isn’t just about finding cute monsters, though, as players will have to battle or sneak around the other creatures wandering each dungeon floor. Despite playing with yokai, the player’s character can be quite weak, so combat will be very dangerous through the entire game. Players who do well at it will find their creature getting stronger and their name rising up Yōdanji’s world leaderboard.
Players interested in learning about Japanese folklore and monsters can do so now, as Yōdanji is available from the Google Play store.
