Cartridge-Based Console Retro VGS Gets Backing From Coleco

The upcoming cartridge-based console Retro VGS may have failed its crowdfunding attempt on Indiegogo last year yet it’s proven to be down but not out. It’s now got the  backing of Coleco (thanks RetroGamer).

Coleco was among the first companies to bring gaming out of arcades and into living rooms with the ColecoVision back in 1982. Coleco did go bankrupt in the late ‘80s but returned in 2005 and now it’s bringing out its first console in, well, decades.

Yep, the Retro VGS has now been rebranded as the Coleco Chameleon and it’ll be returning to crowdfunding in 2016, although this time it’ll use Kickstarter instead of Indiegogo.

Despite the new title, the concept of this console is the same – it’ll play compilations of older games on cartridges as well as modern games in the 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit styles.
