Starting October 10, Europe will be able to purchase a 40GB Playstation 3 for €399 ($563). Compared to North America the price seems steep, but it’s notably more reasonable than the Playstation 3 starter pack priced at €599 ($846). The catch is you only have two USB ports opposed to four, no multi-memory card reader (Memory stick/SD card/CompactFlash reader) and the 40GB Playstation 3 will not play any PS2 games.

If you want a backwards compatible Playstation 3, the starter pack is the way to go and Sony is slashing one hundred Euros off the price to bring it to €499 ($705).
The PS3-only 40GB Playstation 3 has not been announced for any other region so far, but if it came out at $399 in North America would you buy it?
