While informative, the blurry magazine scan didn’t do R-Type Tactics justice. Famitsu posted up the same screenshots from the scan today, but their pictures have much more detail. You can see the horizontal hex grid, a handful of R-Type fighters at your command and if you’re an R-Type fan a familiar boss. The screenshots suggest R-Type Tactics isn’t going to be a strategy RPG, instead it probably has more in common with Advance Wars with a story about the Bydo Empire. Irem has R-Type Tactics scheduled to come out for the PSP sometime this year in Japan and a North American release date has not been announced. Eidos took a chance and released R-Type Final for the PS2 under their now deceased Fresh Games label. Who is going to take a chance with R-Type Final? My money is on Agetec or Atlus, since both companies already have a relationship with Irem.
