Collector’s Corner: Summer Styling with Animal Crossing New Horizons Pins

Convention season may have been canceled for 2020, but that doesn’t mean we have to give up on our pin trading dreams. Pinny Arcade just released a set of Animal Crossing: New Horizons pins that capture the essence of our ideal tropical getaway. They sent Siliconera a set of these pins so we can go over them with you.

This set of pins is currently for sale in the Pinny Arcade store for $30. It features favorites like Isabelle and KK Slider, as well as Timmy and Tommy Nook, and bell-addict Tom Nook. Everyone except for KK Slider is wearing a soft pastel tropical shirt, channeling their inner Tom Selleck-era Magnum P.I.

Each pin appears to be made with hard enamel. The pins I received were nearly flawless. The enamel fill was smooth, with no dips or deep scratches. Sadly, a single black speck landed in Isabelle’s hair during production. You have to get really close to it to even notice that flaw. She’s still beautiful and looks wonderful on the pin lanyard with the rest of the gang. I’m not a huge fan of Tom Nook’s “just woke up from a nap” look, but I’m sure some people out there have written fanfic about it.

There are double posts on the back of each Animal Crossing: New Horizons pins, which is perfect for making sure they don’t spin around on your lanyard as you run from booth to booth in the convention hall. Due to the width of Timmy and Tommy’s pin, you might feel more comfortable putting that pin on a wider lanyard. It will fit on a regular lanyard, however it’s cutting it too close to the edges for me to feel like it’s safe.

If you head on over to the Pinny Arcade store to buy these Animal Crossing: New Horizons pins, be sure to check out the rest of the merchandise. Since all of the cons for this year are on hold, PAX 2020 gear is up for preorder, including PAX West, PAX AU, and Explorers Club merch which all offer free shipping.

Finally, I just want to give a big shout out to the Pinny Arcade store. The care they took in putting the box together was impressive. If this is how they handle orders customers place with them, their customer service team deserves an ovation. Full disclosure: the lanyard and video games sweatshirt used in this article were included with the pins for display purposes.
