Mary Skelter: Nightmares was one of Compile Heart’s best-selling titles of late but there was more to the reason why it is getting a sequel, and it is mostly thanks to all the support from fans. Director Atsushi Ishizuka recently shared more about it in this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
Atsushi Ishizuka, Director: “Part 2 was able to happen thanks to all the players. For a while, we were getting illustrations from fans on Twitter on a daily basis, and we received so much more support than we could ever imagine from fans voicing their desire for a sequel, and that’s what started the plans for part 2. It really shows how much of an effect you get from messages, one way or another.”
Dengeki: I really want to communicate how it is completely okay to start from Mary Skelter 2. If there are feelings you can only get from playing Mary Skelter 2 first and then 1, then I believe the same could be said for those who play 1 first and then 2.
Atsushi Ishizuka: “It was thanks to all the fans that we were able to make a sequel. I’m truly grateful for all of those who asked ‘Are we getting a sequel?’ before announcing part 2. It definitely shows how receiving such voices was able to move this company. I hope that everyone enjoys the sequel that the staff is putting everything into right now, and it would also be nice to have an anime for it. I want to continue expanding on its world so we can show you guys, so it’d bring me great pleasure to see your continued support.”
Mary Skelter 2 releases in Japan on June 28, 2018 for PlayStation 4. You can check out the latest on its battle system in our previous report, or more on its characters here and here.
