Controlling Taiko Drum Master on the DS

Creativity points go to Namco Bandai for their control set up in Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Touch de Dokodon. Home console Taiko no Tatsujin (Taiko Drum Master in the USA) games have a drum controller you hit and Taiko no Tatsujin DS attempts to emulate this on the Nintendo DS. The touch screen becomes a virtual drum players hit with two stylus sized drum sticks. Like the other Taiko no Tatsujin games you have to alternate between hitting the center of the drum and the outer edge. There is a new move has to master in the DS game where you have to “turn” the drum by quickly drawing circles around it. There is a downside to this control scheme, you can’t hold your DS and drum at the same time. You have to rest the Nintendo DS on a table or your lap. I imagine it might be difficult to enjoy Taiko no Tatsujin on a bumpy car ride, but it’s a small price to pay for an innovation.
