Could There Be a Death Stranding 3?

When Death Stranding launched, the end of the game hinted at the future of Sam Porter Bridges and Lou, but both the game didn’t completely confirm we’d see a sequel and Kojima Productions hasn’t said anything about continuing this now-series. Hideo Kojima also told Video Games Chronicle that he had ideas, but wouldn’t be the one to make another. Now that Death Stranding 2 is here, there’s an ending and certain events that leave open the possibility of a Death Stranding 3 or perhaps DLC.

Editor’s Note: There will be major spoilers for the ending of Death Stranding 2 in the article below.

How does the ending of Death Stranding 2 suggest DLC or a Death Stranding 3?

There are two things that would it make it possible for Kojima Productions to be able to return to the world of Death Stranding with a future game or other project. The first isn’t a major spoiler, while the second is. I’ll go ahead and start with the one that isn’t going to ruin any gameplay for you.

In Death Stranding 2, the concept of Plate Gates is explored. If entire continents are linked up via the Chiral Network, it’s confirmed that a portal to another location around the world will open up. The main example during the campaign is the Plate Gate between Mexico and Australia. Part of the reason for connecting the whole of Australia, aside from giving people an opportunity to keep and touch and get necessary resources again, is to open up a new portal. We hear about this happening once Sam connects the Terminal Fort Knot (F8) location. We don’t get to go through it, but it is now present in Australia.

But the biggest hint that there could be a Death Stranding 3 or some other continuation involves the very end of the second game. We see a porter with Fragile’s equipment smoking on the ground as quote from her about loving porters comes up. The camera then reveals this is Tomorrow stepping up as a porter and about to head through a Plate Gate on her own journey.

We’ll have to wait and see if Kojima Productions confirms there could be more on the way for the series, but the ending of Death Stranding 2 does leave things open for something more.
