5pb is developing a PSP sequel to Corpse Party and Corpse Party: Book of Shadows takes a page from Eternal Darkness. The game has a spirit contamination system that distorts the world when spirits make you lose your sanity. Hallucinations and paranoia kick in when your spirit sinks. If it’s depleted the game ends.

While Corpse Party was a top down adventure/horror game, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is played from a first person perspective. When an active action icon appears you can freely look around an area to find an object like the key in the screenshots below.

After you find the key in the corner you can move on. The visual style is quite different from the original Corpse Party, the original game had sprites. It didn’t have keys hiding in ceilings either. I suppose this makes Corpse Party: Book of Shadows one of the scariest hidden object games in town.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows comes out on August 4 in Japan.
