Square Enix continued its trend of releasing Switch 2 versions of existing Final Fantasy games with a Crisis Core FFVII Reunion port. The game will show up on the console on September 9, 2026 and is one of the Nintendo Direct shadowdrops.
Crisis Core FFVII follows Zack Fair’s adventures and time as a SOLDIER with Shinra ahead of the events of Final Fantasy VII. It also acts as an insight into what happened with Sephiroth and how he turned from the strongest hero in the company to a world-threatening villain.
As a reminder, there is no story update in this version of the game. Rather, it’s a more traditional remaster. There are updated graphics, the camera is adjusted and fixed, there’s full voice acting, and a new soundtrack is available. However, some of the character models and designs might look different as a result of unifying measures to make it more consistent with recent releases.

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII appeared on the PSP and the Reunion updated remaster is on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
