Datel removes foiled Freeloader from products

This article is over 16 years old and may contain outdated information

In accordance with the recent firmware update for the Wii, Datel removed all versions of the Wii Freeloader from their retail site Codejunkies.com. A link to the product page still exists on Google, but the internal search engine excludes the Wii Freloader. A pragmatic decision. It would be unethical for Datel to sell a defunct device after issuing the following statement.

Please note, due to circumstances beyond our control Wii Freeloader is not compatible with latest version Wii firmware 3.3 and higher, just released (released as an online update 17/06/2008).

You can continue to use Wii Freeloader perfectly with any Wii console running firmware 3.2 and below. If you upgrade to Wii firmware 3.3 or higher this WILL disable the Freeloader function and it will stop working for all future use on all import games.

The disc isn’t rare yet. Plenty of other retail outlets still sell the Wii Freeloader with or without warnings about firmware version 3.3. Datel has not mentioned any plans to sell an updated Wii Freeloader or if they will continue the Freeloader lineup at this time.
