FuRyu makes a ton of Vocaloid figures, from ones offered up as prizes to more substantial ones. Plenty of them are Hatsune Miku ones! So many that they tend to be grouped by themes or specific lines. One of the recent figures I managed to find and buy is the Alice in Wonderland take on Hatsune Miku that is part of the Desktop Fairy trio and, while this is another prize figure that is considered a budget option, its dynamic pose help it stand out.
The Desktop Fairy Hatsune Miku Wonderland figure is basically her in the traditional blue dress with white apron and black shoes and ribbon that we expect Alice to wear in her story. It, like all three in this trio that also includes Little Mermaid and Little Red Riding Hood takes on the Vocaloid, depicts the character as a child. So while it isn’t a “chibi” version of her, there is that sort of art direction to lean in to a more youthful appearance as in the story. It’s cute!
It is also good to go right out of the box. There is essentially no assembly. You take Miku and stick her right foot into the translucent stand. Do that and she’s installed and ready to be displayed. The ease of it is appreciated. Also, I get the feeling that it helps with the general stability, since the pose is a little bit precarious due to the design direction.
See, the Hatsune Miku Desktop Fairy Wonderland figure shows her as Alice running with tea cups. Only her right foot is flat on the “ground,” secured to the base. The rest is designed to offers a sense of chaos, with her perhaps dashing higgledy-piggledy with the two cups in her hands about to tumble and spill the tea one is carrying. There’s a general sense of everything being askew, which I appreciate, even though her light blue dress and white apron are pristine.
It’s the little touches that add personality and emphasize movement with the Hatsune Miku Desktop Fairy Wonderland figure. Her right foot is at an odd angle, showing she’s an inexperienced runner perhaps in a bit of panic. The stacked cups are positioned with the top at an angle and the tea inside about to spill out. We can see potential droplets at the top of the arc, and her expression is fixed on the drink that’s about to spill to emphasize something could go quite wrong. While the left side of the bow looks fine, the right is askew to again show the awkward movements. Likewise, her left foot is at an odd angle behind her, suggesting it’s more likely she’s about to maybe even trip rather than make it to her destination.
I do wish the pigtails for this Hatsune Miku figure ended up a little more expressive. They both convey a sense of movement. You can clearly tell she’s “moving forward” due to their positioning. However, they look a little orderly compared to the other more expressive elements of the figure. Those being additional pieces that flared out a bit more would have been nice. However, I almost suspect that FuRyu needed to go with this positioning for balance purposes. I could see it perhaps not being as sturdy if her hair went everywhere.
The Hatsune Miku Desktop Fairy Wonderland figure is fun because of the hurried element of her dynamic pose and Alice in Wonderland design. It nails the theme. The little details all really emphasize this is a version of the Vocaloid that is in motion and perhaps a little harried. I do wish the hair ended up a little more chaotic to match the rest of the tone, but it’s generally a solid prize figure.
