UemeU (which stands for You-Me-You) is an interactive sandbox game where you have tools to create a world or a simple video game. During GDC, we met Omnigon Games, a team started by avid Minecraft players and saw a platforming game made with UemeU. Players can also create aesthetic pieces and internally the team has play sessions where they recreate worlds like South Park…

… and Studio Ghibli. These models are kind of like prefabs, a preset group of objects with scripts attached to them, and if you see a model in UemeU you can copy it and use it in your game. Totoro can’t be a playable character though since UemeU has an avatar system, but conceptually you could make a game where you jump over waves of Totoros.

UemeU is in public alpha and playable now. The game is getting overhauled with a new avatar system and it looks like, similar to Minecraft, Omnigon Games will continue to build the game as the community plays it.
