Nippon Ichi is tweaking Disgaea 3 for PlayStation Vita. The portable version, Absence of Detention, gives generic characters players create new moves. Each character type will have a new class specific move. Generic characters can also go into awakening mode when their HP is low and they are in a pinch. When you’re in this status you can magnify the damage done with certain attacks.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention will use touch screen controls. Players can scroll through windows with the front touch screen and use the the rear touch pad to rotate the map or camera. You can also flick characters to throw them.

The record shop returns and will keep track of statistics like your play time and how much damage you dealt. Just like Disgaea 4, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention also has a network feature where you can see worldwide progress through the Everyone’s Records option.

One new feature for the Disgaea series is you can gain mana (used to purchase skills or talk to the classroom assembly) and experience by walking around with your PlayStation Vita. Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention keeps track of your location and determines how many points you earn by the distance you traveled.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention will be a PlayStation Vita launch title in Japan. NIS America confirmed they will localize it and release the game around the system’s launch window for North America.
