Angelous sent a tip (thanks!!) about a fantastic feature article chronicling the History of Dragon Quest written by Siliconera alumni and Hardcore Gaming 101 founder, Kurt Kalata. Actually, I believe the concept for this piece originated from Hardcore Gaming 101, but the source shouldn’t make a difference. This essay is an awesome read and a deep look into Dragon Quest starting from the very beginning. Kalata tackles reasons behind Dragon Quest’s boom in Japan, lack of attention in North America and mentions some of the spinoffs at the end. Beware the article is rife with spoilers about all of the Dragon Quest games including V and VI, which were never released outside of Japan. Perhaps, this will change with the upcoming Nintendo DS remakes. Square Enix wouldn't make a skeleton localization of Dragon Quest IV DS without a reason…
