Takara Tomy’s Dragon Quest version of The Game of Life (the board game) will come out in Japan in late October 2026. According to the Takara Tomy post on social media, this is the first collaboration between the JRPG and that board game. It is unknown if it will appear worldwide, though Hasbro’s original The Game of Life board game is sold everywhere.
The Dragon Quest: The Game of Life board game will cost 7,150 yen. That converts to approximately $44.90. In the game, your goal is to become a legendary hero and defeat the evil Zoma in a roulette showdown. The board game also contains lots of references to the RPG, between locations (such as Alltrades Abbey) and vocations (such as Gadabouts).
The rules are likely very similar to the original version of the Game of Life. It’s likely that companion pegs take the place of children. Depending on the vocations of your companions, you might have an easier time against events in the game. An example on the website shows everyone in your party falling to the effects of Dazzle. If you don’t have a Mage or Sage, you’ll lose 12,000 gold. Famous monsters from the Dragon Quest series also appear on event tiles.
The Dragon Quest: The Game of Life board game will come out in late October 2026. As for the main video game series, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age will come out on September 24, 2026 for the Switch 2. The game is already available on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
