Earthlock: Festival of Magic Shows Off New Trailer, Reaching End Of Kickstarter

Earthlock: Festival of Magic is a Kickstarter indie RPG that’s looking to be released on pretty much every major platform. Without stretch goals. The grow-your-own-ammo turn-based RPG is looking to publish on PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The game’s developers released a new trailer at GDC at the Unity booth, and you can watch it above.

The development team pulled the original Kickstarter late last year due to clashing with the release of the two new consoles on the block, but came back with them on their updated Kickstarter. Should the game get funded, it’s looking to release on computer platforms first quarter 2015, with the rest following in quarter two.

The game is now already halfway to funded, and with about two weeks to go might still make its targets to let us live in a world of machines and magics. It might also interest you to know they’ve got SuperGenius Studios—the folks who helped do the art for titles such as The Walking Dead—on board as well for their art and Jory Prum, who’s worked on sound design for titles such as Sam and Max and Monkey Island.

The twist to their turn-based combat revolves around pairing characters. While there are discrete characters in the game, they’ll all have to be paired up during fights. The warrior of the pair will be using consumable ammunition and other items to deal damage, while the protector slings spells and shields them both. Instead of mana, damage dealt to the pair builds up Support Points that you’ll then be able to use to cast with.

Different pairings will unlock special pair actions or character stats. Kinda like Chrono Trigger’s special combination moves. To get more consumables, you’ll actually have to farm and craft them yourself, which includes potion brewing, the care and feeding of barnacles, and upgrading weapons.

In Earthlock, players are Amon, a desert scavenger on the planet Umbra, which has mysteriously stopped spinning generations ago, plunging the world into an eternal time of endless light and darkness. An ancient magical cult is attempting to seize power. You’re there to stop it. On your travels you’ll meet Batman bat-man Gnart, Ive, Bryn and other characters to aid you on your quest.

The game is already Greenlit on Steam, and there’s a (very early) demo available on the Kickstarter page, too.

Earthlock: Festival of Magic will be available on PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can fund it here, and it’s got about two weeks and half its target to go as of press time.
