Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter Has a $1 Million Stretch Goal for Console Ports (Update)

The Rabbit & Bear Studios Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter has launched. The project is seeking ¥35,749,936 (~$509,713) to create a Suikoden-like JRPG. As of 1pm ET on July 27, 2020, it had more than passed the halfway point with over $350,000 raised by over 2,800 backers. It has until August 28, 2020 to be fully funded, and the PC version has a tentative October 2022 launch window. Editor’s Note: As of 2:10pm ET on July 27, 2020, it is fully funded.

The Kickstarter debut also led to the reveal of two of the Eiyuden Chronicles stretch goals. The first is a $750,000 goal that would add a Fortress Mode to the game. If $1 million is raised, console ports will be pursued. PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions will be planned. A Nintendo hardware version for whatever system comes after the Nintendo Switch will also be supported.

RAB Studios also discussed the possibility of Eiyuden Chronicle perhaps becoming a Steam or Epic Games Store exclusive. Essentially, the campaign page confirmed this will not be an option. It noted, “We have confirmed with any potential publisher that we will not sign a contract with them that shuts off a key platform from our backers.” It also said people who back the game will get their copies before a retail release.

DLC also came up. RAB Studios noted that It said that “most of [the add-ons] will be content that backers will be able to get for free and before anybody else.” Stretch goal DLC will be given as free DLC. A golden haired cat and some buildings will be backer-specific DLC. The developer also confirmed that these may be added later as paid DLC.

The lowest amount of money someone can contribute and be guaranteed a copy of Eiyuden Chronicle is ¥4,000 (~$38). That gives people a digital copy and makes them a Knight, Ranger, or Wizard on the game’s Discord. The ¥6,000 ($57) tier makes that a physical copy and also adds access to the beta. The highest funding level is ¥750,000 and gives people a physical copy of the game, beta access, a sigil button, a CD soundtrack, an art book, whichever job reward set you want, Noble role in Discord, and a chance to visit the development team.

The Eiyuden Chronicle Kickstarter will remain open until August 29, 2020. The PC version has an October 2022 launch window. If the $1 million stretch goal is reached, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo’s next generation console versions will be made.
