El Shaddai Starts The Hundred Year War Rolling For Capcom

Back in August, Capcom revealed that it was working on a PC browser-based historic-strategy RPG called Hundred Years’ War: Euro Historia. The game is out in Japan, and to get it started, Capcom introduced a pile of collaborations and events.

Before we get to that, though, here’s the gist of Euro Historia. The game splits us back into the Hundred Year War of Europe, with two major sides of the French and the English. The Holy Roman Empire is also in there, meddling quite happily away. And to make it all really majestic, it’s also got Chrono Trigger/Xenogears/Soul Sacrifice music composer Yasunori Mitsuda’s music!

It’s mostly looking to be a turn-based RPG, with both your and enemy teams set into their own formations with generals and troops of a rather cutesy, super-deformed look. You’ll be able to create formations out of several classes of troops, ranging from basic footmen to halberdiers and even flintlock gunmen. They’ll be led by generals who are the meat and potatoes of your army.

As it’s a one side-versus-the other side game, there’s territories to capture, online foes to fight against and a ton of generals to acquire. While some look much more realistic, like Joan of Arc (Ignore the animation version above), others look distinctly more Japan-related, such as Maria de Navarra. You’ll be able to level these characters up and they’ll even have different sets of costumes to represent their power levels. OK, so that’s pretty much taken out of nearly every social game from Japan these days, but it still looks great.

There also appears to be some form of minor city management, or at least city building of a sort. Christmas will start with a Christmas event that will see a limited time general, Joan of Kent. You’ll also be able to get a Christmas Nativity building.

There was also a tie-up with El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, which granted you Enoch as a general for the game’s opening promotional collaboration. And if you somehow, somehow live in Japan and want to play this at an Internet café, racking up enough hours unlocks these two beautiful generals below for use.

Hundred Years’ War: Euro Historia is out now as a free-to-play on PC and Mac.
