Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon Shows Its Character Creation And Some Dungeons

Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon is an upcoming collaboration between the two series with Atlus and Spike Chunsoft that combines elements from dungeon crawlers and roguelikes. Here’s a few videos to give you an example of how it’ll play.

The character creation video shows us a few jobs starting with Swordsman, Paladin, Gunner, Runemaster, Medic, Dancer, and Hexer. It’s quite similar to Etrian Odyssey’s system for making characters, and we get to see them in action for a bit at the end.

The second video is about the always changing dungeons, which fans of Mystery Dungeon games are pretty familiar with. For this reason, going in with the proper formation will always be important to remember.

The next video shows the group in different situations, and you can get a good idea of how having the proper formations will be helpful, especially later in the game when things can get pretty punishing.

Finally, the last video starts out by showing various hazards like traps and party members getting knocked back and ruining formation, so you’ll always have to be on your toes.

There are all kinds of other surprises, as you might run into a “Monster House” where it’s full of different enemies waiting to jump your party. There are also a special shops you’ll occasionally run into, where you can purchase various items… but let’s not forget to pay for them, or suffer the consequences.

Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon is slated for release in Japan on March 5, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.
