The main highlights of this crossover will be the additions of Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami as recruitable party members. Shinji and his Evangelion Unit 01 will be available upon reaching the interlude of the crossover story that launches on November 5, 2025. Meanwhile, Rei and her Evangelion Unit 00 will be unlockable later by clearing Episode 4-4, which will be part of the story’s latter half that appears later on November 10, 2025.

In addition, Mari Makinami Illustrious and her Evangelion Unit 08 will appear as a summon unit. She will be available via the crossover’s Event Quest, along with a Generic Longinus Spear as an obtainable weapon. Players will also be able to witness pincer attacks from Shinji and Kaworu for the duration of the event.

The Evangelion crossover story in Granblue Fantasy will also feature more characters from the franchise, such as Asuka Shikinami Langley, Misato Katsuragi, Ritsuko Akagi, and Maya Ibuki. But while Cygames has also teased a crossover gacha banner with up to 5 free pulls, it has yet to confirm whether the Evangelion Unit 02 pilot Asuka will be recruitable or not.

Cygames has been frequently holding crossover events featuring numerous external IPs in Granblue Fantasy. In 2024, it notably held crossovers based on My Hero Academia and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

Granblue Fantasy is available on mobile devices and internet browsers. The Evangelion crossover event “Bonds of Phantasmal Blue” will take place on November 5-17, 2025.
